PÃ¥skeklip / Easter Crafts 2023

A hyggelig evening –

The hunt for the chocolate Easter eggs decorating the tables along with paper cutting and crafts were in full swing while waiting for the final preparations for the Påskefrokost / traditional Easter buffet this past Saturday.  We enjoyed a delectable array of traditional dishes including herring with curry sauce, smoked salmon, egg and tomato with shrimp, frikadeller (meatballs) with potato salad and cucumber salad, leverpostej (liver pate) with bacon and homemade pickled beets, ham and Italian salad, various cheeses, and of course beer and akvavit.  Skål!  For dessert, the pièce de résistance, citron fromage (lemon mousse) which we were so busy enjoying that we didn’t get any pictures.

Sending a Gækkebrev (teaser letter) is one of the best and most loved among the Danes. The sender of the letter is anonymous. The letter will have short poems or rhymes and is signed with a number of dots corresponding to the number of letters in the sender’s name, so that the recipient has a chance of guessing who sent the letter.

If the receiver cannot guess the sender’s identity by Easter, the receiver will have to give an Easter egg to the sender, and if the receiver guesses who the letter is from, then the sender will have to give him/her a Easter Egg.
